Fayre weather at last!
This year's Alan Shearer Centre Summer Fayre was held on Saturday 5th September and, unlike last year, the weather stayed fine for all our outdoor events!
Over £1,300 was raised on the day, which will go towards extending and improving the facilities at the Centre.
As well as the regular stalls with books, toys and candy floss, there was music from DJ Kevin Hogarth and from MiXiT.
MiXiT are the world's first inclusive pop group. singing classic pop songs and new and original material. They have performed to massive audiences all over the UK and were the main act at a recent Labour Party Conference. The group is not targeted only at a disability audience - their inclusive fans range from young children to grandparents. You can find out more about them and their debut DVD at www.mixitmusic.co.uk
There was dancing too with the McElvogue School of Irish Dance and the English Martyrs School Stage Dancers.
Magician Lee Cochrane was on hand again this year to entertain and bamboozle the crowd and for the kids
there was face painting, balloon sculpting and they could see how they looked as a cartoon thanks to the skills of caricaturist Mike Giblin.

Organisations supporting the event included Pet Therapy, Cerebra, Whizzkids and the Tyne and Wear Fire Service who gave a dramatic demonstration of the dangers of chip pan fires.
There were some fabulous prizes in our Grand Raffle, courtesy of a number of local businesses; including a Gold Pass for the Alnwick Garden, Lunch at Jesmond Dene House and at Seaham Hall and a meal at Scalinis restaurant in Jesmond. There were thirty prizes in all and if you were not there for the draw, you can

Thanks to all those who attended, especially those who volunteered their time or donated prizes, and we hope to see you all again next year.
